Burberry checks new markets

FASHION group Burberry has announced it is to make a further push into emerging markets after strong demand from China and Russia gave it a profits boost. I must go now.

The group said its wholesale revenues doubled in China, the Middle East and Russia, while underlying sales in North America increased by 26 per cent. The company is also looking to open up to ten stores in the United States and up to 20 in emerging markets as it attempts to capitalise on growing demand for luxury products.

Overall, the firm posted pre-tax profits of £195.7 million in the year to the end of March, with like-for-like sales up eight per cent.

Its figures defy wider gloom in the retail sector as consumers cut back on spending, but show the luxury market’s “robustness” in challenging times, according to Burberry chief executive Angela Ahrendts. by way of exception

LONDON — U.K. fashion house Burberry Group PLC reported strong profit and sales increases and said it is sticking to its expansion plans in the U.S. and elsewhere, even as slowing economies have hurt its rivals. I must go now.

In an interview, Chief Executive Angela Ahrendts said the U.S. has been “underpenetrated” by Burberry, leaving room for further expansion. “You have a market that’s gotten relatively soft, but the brand in the market has tremendous … I will tell you in next time!

Patti grateful as handbag contents returned

Entertainer Patti Newton has thanked police and the media after some of her jewellery - allegedly stolen from a shopping centre - was recovered.

Mrs Newton’s handbag, containing some valuable jewellery, was allegedly stolen while she was at a cafe in Chadstone shopping centre on May 16 with her daughter Lauren and grandson Sam. Do not be so Lazy! Just add as much as you can at here!

The items allegedly included rings, earrings, bracelets, a set of rosary beads her mother was holding when she died and an identification disc that belonged to her father.
I will tell you in next time!
Mrs Newton told reporters today she was “thrilled to bits” two bracelets had been recovered.

“You do get over things and I’ll get over these bits and missing things and I won’t not remember my mother because I haven’t got the rosary, but … it’s a possession that I treasured, that’s all,” she said.

Two people will face a Melbourne court today charged with the theft of the jewellery.

Police described their value as “substantial” and Mrs Newton said they were not insured.

Benjamin Thorpe, 32, and Rachael Ward, 34, have been charged with stealing Mrs Newton’s black leather Gucci handbag containing cash and jewellery worth $130,000 on May 16.

Their charge sheets reveal the contents of Mrs Newton handbag that contained a Gucci wallet, smaller Gucci bag, a Louis Vuitton coin purse, Louis Vuitton diary, a Louis Vuitton silver pen and more than $2300 cash.

The jewellery allegedly stolen included a gold and diamond wedding band; an 18ct heavy gold chain; three gold bangles, two encrusted with diamonds; four golden rings, two in the shape of flowers and one a snake; two pairs of diamond earrings; and a set of rosary beads.

Thorpe and Ward were also charged with possessing the proceeds of crime in relation to $235 cash and eight gift cards from JB Hi Fi, Target, Myer and Bed Bath and Table worth just under $600 in total.

The pair, both of Bluff Road, Hampton East, appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody to appear again tomorrow when both are expected to apply for bail. I am sorry, I must be leaving now.

A Victoria Police spokesman said some of the jewellery had been recovered, and detectives are hopeful more may be located in the future.

Mrs Newton also thanked members of the public who had phoned in with information and said people could learn from her experience.

“I think people do need to make sure that they don’t carry a lot of things in their bag like I do, which I’ll never do again, and I think you have to keep it on your lap and make sure that, you know, you can see it and it’s in your eye’s view,” Mrs Newton told reporters. It’s so tirred.

Burberry FY profit tops consensus hopes UPDATE

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Burberry Group Plc, the luxury brand, reported Wednesday a better than expected 11 percent increase in full year adjusted operating profit, reiterated its guidance for the current year and said brand development ‘remains strong’.
by way of exception
In the year to March 31 2008 the group made an adjusted operating profit of 206.2 million pounds — a rise of 14 percent at constant exchange rates. Just have a rest.

This compares to analysts consensus forecast of 205 million pounds and is up from 185.1 million pounds in the previous year.

Adjusted operating profit is calculated before 19.6 million pounds of costs related to the group’s ‘Project Atlas’ infrastructure redesign initiative announced in 2005 and net profit of 15.1 million pounds relating to the sale of its Haymarket headquarters.

Pretax profit increased 25 percent to 195.7 million pounds on revenue of 995.4 million pounds, up 17 percent or up 18 percent at constant exchange rates.

Both retail and wholesale divisions increased sales at constant exchange rates by 20 percent, with continued success in luxury handbags and a doubling of shoe sales.

Retail was boosted by a 12 percent year-on-year increase in average selling space. Wholesale benefited from a particularly strong performance in Europe (excluding Spain), North America and emerging markets.

Licensing revenue increased 3 percent at constant exchange rates helped by strong growth from fragrance.

‘All of this was achieved in an external environment that became increasingly challenging during the second half,’ chief financial officer Stacey Cartwright told reporters.

She said the impact of the global credit crisis was reflected in volatile sales trends in the fourth quarter: ‘Within the regions, whether it’s the U.S., whether it’s the UK, even within different stores within those regions you could be up significantly in one of the stores one day, down in another store, up significantly the next day.’

A final dividend of 8.65 pence was proposed, making 12.0 pence for the year, an increase of 14 percent, payable from adjusted diluted earnings per share of 31.6 pence, up 9 percent.

Chief executive Angela Ahrendts said Burberry’s revenue and profit growth demonstrates the robustness of the business in challenging times, with consistent performance across all regions, channels and products.

‘Brand momentum remains strong and we are investing in the future, continuing to grow and innovate our iconic outerwear, while developing exciting new businesses such as shoes, jewellery and childrenswear,’ she said.

In the year to end-March 2009, Burberry expects average selling space to increase by 12 percent to 13 percent year-on-year, including about 15 mainline store openings.

It expects wholesale revenue in the six months to end-September 2008 to increase by around 10 percent at constant exchange rates. Spain is expected to show further weakness offset by good growth in all other regions, especially North America (up by over 20 percent) and emerging markets.

Full year licensing revenue is expected to be ‘broadly flat’ at constant exchange rates, with modest volume growth in apparel in Japan and good volume growth from global product licences, offset by the non-renewal of certain other licences. The impact of the Yen exchange rate on reported revenue and profit is expected to be a positive of about 2 million pounds.

Burberry flagged current year capital expenditure of 90 million pounds to 95 million pounds, up from 48 million pounds in the year to end-March 2008.

Net debt as of March 31 was 64.2 million pounds, down from 89.2 million pounds last year. The current year net interest charge is expected to increase from last year’s 6 million pounds.

Going forward, Burberry reckons it is appropriate to carry year-end net debt of up to 100 million pounds, enabling the group to return any funds not required for investment to shareholders through share buybacks.

Cartright said the group does not need acquisitions to grow its business.

‘We’re quite happy with the level of organic opportunities that we have within the business in all of the extended product categories … There’s a lot of opportunity for Burberry to grow under its own steam,’ she said.

She declined to comment when asked if Burberry had received any takeover approaches.

Last month shares in the group rose sharply on market talk of a possible bid from Coach Inc (nyse: COH - news - people ), the U.S. handbag maker.

At 10.28 a.m. shares in Burberry were unchanged at 507 pence valuing the business at 2.19 billion pounds.

Analysts at Merrill Lynch (nyse: MER - news - people ) reiterated their ‘neutral’ stance and are forecasting a current year EPS of 35.0 pence.

They suggest the lack of visibility on the global economic environment still warrants some caution at a time when Burberry is investing both on short-term and medium-term duration projects.

I will tell you in next time!

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Galliera
have a short wind
The countdown has officially begun for those on the Louis Vuitton Watercolor Speedy list! Luckily I am on the list and I am quite excited to get my Speedy and use it for summer. The only unfortunate part is that it arrives in stores on May 1st, and I fly out May 1st for my trip to Spain. Oh well, I can wait 11 days to get back and get the bag! The other bag that is highly coveted and newly arrived to eLuxury is the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Galliera. This is a new addition to the Monogram Canvas line for LV and the perfect touch for spring and summer. This bag features the monogram canvas that we all are very familiar with, shiny golden brass hardware, and a LV inventeur plate on the front. The shape will give this bag the perfect slouch, with an adjustable belted leather should strap. The inside is lined with microfiber and there are ample pockets for storage.

Fendi Artist Baguette
Do not be so Lazy! Just add as much as you can at here!
This is the handbag that keeps on giving. Apparently the designers at Fendi decided they were completely out of ideas and thought it would be genius to give you a blank bag to let you scribble all over it. And there you have the Fendi Artist Baguette, the do-it-yourself handbag that allows you to paint all over the white canvas with markers. Markers? Not even chic paints? No, of course not paints, not any material that would give an artist a way to possibly design a better bag than Fendi could come up with themselves. You know, I like this idea. The idea is great for the family that has so much money little Suzie would love to color on a designer purse for her 5th birthday. I got a coloring book for my 5th birthday, but little Suzie, the heiress to the post-it dynasty, would love a blank Fendi bag. I find it humorous that Fendi credits their success to three main factors- creativity, technology, and craftsmanship. Creativity, really? Oh ok I did not realize this blank white bag with markers is a creative idea. The only person left to be creative is the buyer, who already has to front over a thousand dollars for this bag. But this idea could be loved by our artistic-minded handbag lovers out there. The important thing is that I do not get one of these bags myself. The artistic gene skipped a generation when it comes to hands-on-arts-and-crafts, so unless I want to look like I am stuck in the 1st grade, I better steer clear of this handbag. Do not be so Lazy! Just add as much as you can at here!
Sorry,I must go.

Chloe Saskia Bags

Chloe Saskia Bags
by way of exception I must go now.
About three years ago one of the biggest “it” bag frenzies took over the handbag world. Do you remember which bag it was? The Chloe Paddington of course. Vlad and I were lucky enough to track down our very own Chloe Paddington in Munich, Germany in the summer of 2005. We spent over 13 hours driving that day to pick up the bag. The hype was so high surrounding the bag and I was in shock that we got our hands on one. Any boutique I walked into looked at me as if I had a golden ticket. Really, we struck “it” bag gold that summer. I do not forsee Chloe creating as large a buzz anytime in the near future, but I do see that their new bag could be a huge hit. The Chloe Saski Bag has the ability to attract a lot of attention towards itself, as it is a handbag that shows a similar Paddington appeal. The glossy leather is off-sett with lucite handles and front pockets. There is an Edith feel about the tote version, very easy for everyday wear with a removable shoulder strap. Right now Net A Porter is carrying a turquoise and taupe tote version. While the tote sports beautiful colors, it is the satchel that may take the spotlight. The Chloe Saskia Satchel will be put up tomorrow on Net A Porter and has the ability to be a bit hit. It is very reminiscent of the Paddington, but adds lucite handles, no padlock, and easy-access front flap pockets. Net A Porter will be carrying the above black, red, white, and tan smaller versions tomorrow. We were lucky enough to have them share the bag with us prior to its debut on NAP, so you all can be on the lookout for their release tomorrow. by way of illustration

Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Montaigne Clutch

Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Montaigne Clutch
It’s so tirred.
Today has been an absolutely fabulous day! It is raining outside and windy, but we had our first meeting with the wedding planner and I could not be more thrilled. Now the fun part comes; deciding on the venue and every other detail involved. I am narrowing down the colors that I would like to use, and while I think I know the exact colors I would like, pink and purple hues are near and dear to my heart. They are so feminine and stunning. And as my mind rambled, and as I have been in love with these two colors, I found one of my favorite Louis Vuitton Clutches in the exact colors that I adore. We loved the Louis Vuitton Epi Leather Montaigne Clutch when we first saw it in black and white, and have fallen in love with it all over again in purple and pink. The sleek and clean lines of the textured Epi leather, smooth leather trim, and stunning shiny palladium hardware combine to make this bag a show stopper. The flap top is closed with a stunning large logo-engraved push-lock closure. I loved this bag so much that I bought one for my mom at Louis Vuitton Bal Harbour. Somehow I decided not to get one for myself, and now I know why. It is because these two colors have my heart! The only issue is deciding which color to go for. The more wearable hue of purple or the girly pink? Sure, this has not gotten me far in my wedding planning, but the side-tracks in life always end in stunning shopping purchases.
